Update: I was heating my whole Vermont house to 68 all winter and burning $280 a month on propane
A guy at the hardware store in Rutland asked why my furnace was running when I was at work, and it hit me that I never once touched the thermostat in 3 winters. Now I keep it at 58 and use a $40 heated blanket, what temp are you all actually running?
Keeping it at 58 all day is smart, but you can squeeze more out of it by dropping to 55 while you're at work and bumping back to 60 when you get home. A programmable thermostat does that for you and costs way less than a month of the old propane bill. The catch is your pipes, so don't go below 55 in a Vermont winter or you're asking for a burst. Set it and forget it, that's the whole point.
