The guy at the Hardwick transfer station said my woodstove setup was going to burn my house down
I was dropping off a load of scrap and he spotted the black pipe running out my truck bed and asked how far it was from my wall. When I said about 6 inches he just shook his head and told me straight up that the manual wants 18 and my insurance would laugh at me if anything ever happened. Took me a weekend to redo it with a proper thimble and heat shield, cost me around $200 in parts at the co-op in Morrisville. Still bugs me that I ran it like that for two winters without thinking. If you've got a stove close to the wall, go dig out the manual and check the clearance numbers, mine were printed right there on the back page the entire time.
