Propane fridge in my barn saved me $60 a month on my electric bill

I kept complaining about my mini fridge in the barn sucking power all summer, turns out a used propane fridge from a Facebook listing in Rutland cost me $75 and burns maybe one 20lb tank every 5 weeks. The catch is you gotta vent it properly or it will smell like gas, I learned that after the first frost. I wired in a carbon monoxide detector nearby since I'm also running a wood stove out there, peace of mind costs like $25. My electric bill dropped from $140 to $80 a month during the hot season, that's real money in this state. Anyone else running propane appliances off the grid or is that too sketchy for most folks?

$75 for a propane fridge? That thing must be ancient. I didn't even know they still made those, figured they went out with the dinosaurs. The smell thing scares me though. Gas in a barn with a wood stove nearby sounds like a bomb waiting to happen. I'm glad you got the CO detector wired up, but did you check the propane lines for leaks before you hooked it up? Rusty fittings are no joke. Saved $60 a month is solid math though. That pays for the tank and then some.
