Power went out for 3 days in Holderness and the wood stove kept us fed, but the freezer almost did me in
Ice storm hit last Tuesday around 6pm. Lost power for 71 hours. We were fine on heat thanks to the stove, cooked every meal on top of it, even baked bread in a dutch oven. But I made one dumb call. I kept opening the chest freezer to grab stuff instead of just leaving it shut. By day two the pork butt I got on sale for $1.79 a pound was getting soft. I ended up hauling 40 pounds of meat to my neighbor's generator and felt like a jerk for not planning ahead. How do you all handle the freezer during a long outage without losing your mind or your food?
