My cheap solution for drying firewood actually worked after a wet spring ruined my whole pile last year

So last May I had a cord of split wood get soaked because my tarp blew off during a storm in southern NH. I was ready to just buy kiln dried but then I remembered an old post about stacking wood in a single row facing south. Figured why not try it with just a cheap pallet and some scrap metal roofing I found on Craigslist. After 3 months of that setup my moisture meter was reading 18% vs the 30%+ I had before. Has anyone else used just sun and wind to dry wood faster without a shed?

18% after 3 months with just a pallet and scrap tin? That's basically witchcraft in NH humidity. I tried the same thing last summer with a south-facing stack on two cinder blocks and a corrugated plastic roof I pulled from someone's trash. Ended up with 22% after 4 months which is still way better than the 35% I had from last year's tarp disaster. Now I'm just gonna keep doing that every spring and save the $500 for a real shed.
