Showerthought: my $40 rice cooker outlived a $300 one by 6 years

The fancy one died at 14 months, right after the warranty ran out, but the cheap one from the Asian market on Bellaire Blvd is still going at 7 years. Did I just get lucky, or is there something to buying the boring version of stuff?
