Guy at the hardware store counter said he sees 3 returns a day of the same $19 drill, got me thinking about the cheap tool cycle
I was in line at Ferguson's Hardware on 5th last Tuesday and the guy ahead of me was returning a corded drill for the second time in a week. The clerk told him quietly that they get about 3 of that exact model back every single day, all bought within a month. So either everybody is buying the same junk or we all keep falling for the same $19 price tag thinking this time it'll hold up. What's the cutoff for you between cheap and just buying the real one once?

Three returns a day at one store sounds like the clerk is messing with him, that's like a thousand drills a year from one little shop. Cheap tools break, sure, but most people getting a $19 drill use it twice and it sits in a drawer forever.
