Update on my balcony garden after 8 weeks of ignoring the usual advice
Honestly, I got tired of hearing everyone say you gotta water succulents like once a month or they'll rot. So I tried the opposite on my little balcony in Austin. I watered my echeveria and jade plants every 3 days for 8 weeks straight, right through the July heat wave. They didn't rot at all. In fact, they doubled in size and got this deep green color I never saw before. The difference was night and day compared to my neighbor's plants that he barely touched. I think the dry heat here just evaporates everything too fast for the old rules to apply. Has anyone else had success breaking the basic care rules for their area?

Oh man, the "water every 3 days" thing is exactly what I do with my succulents here in Phoenix (desert heat club, am I right?). I did the same to my jade plant last summer and it got huge and dark green instead of shriveling up like everyone said it would.

@luna589 did you use any special soil mix or just regular potting soil?
