Question about overwatering my pothos after a tip from my neighbor

I've been keeping pothos for like 4 years and always thought they needed water once a week. My neighbor across the street in Phoenix saw my leaves turning yellow last week and told me to stick my finger in the soil before watering. Turns out the bottom half was soaking wet every time I watered. Now I only water when the top 2 inches are dry and the plant looks way happier after just 10 days. Anyone else make this mistake for years without knowing?

My neighbor in Austin told me the same thing a few months back and I honestly thought she was just being extra with her plants. Tried it on my pothos that was looking kinda sad and droopy and now it's perked up way more than I expected. Definitely changed how I water everything now, not just the pothos.

My buddy Mike in Denver tried this exact thing after his snake plant looked more like a sad noodle than a plant. He was skeptical at first, thought it was one of those internet gimmicks that never work. Well, three weeks later his pothos went from droopy to standing tall like it was showing off or something. Even his wife noticed and she usually ignores all his plant experiments. Now he's turned into that guy who lectures everyone about watering techniques at dinner parties (you know the type).
