PSA: Watering from the bottom saved my droopy basil overnight

I kept killing basil plants on my kitchen windowsill. The leaves would yellow and get all crispy no matter how careful I was with watering. Then my neighbor told me to try bottom watering instead of pouring from the top. I filled a tray with an inch of water and let the pot sit in it for 20 minutes, and within two days the new growth looked totally different. Has anyone else had better luck with bottom watering for herbs indoors?

My mom used to do this with her African violets back in the 80s and they were the happiest plants on the block. I tried it with a sad little oregano plant I had on my workbench and it perked up way faster than I expected. The soil was dry as a bone on top but soaking up water from below made it look fresh again within a week.
