Killed my peace lily with kindness, repotting plan backfired

I always thought more soil meant happier roots, so I bumped my peace lily into a pot twice its size last month over in Portland. It drooped hard and the leaves went yellow, turns out the extra space just held water and rotted things out. Anyone else over-pot and have to do emergency surgery on their plant?
