I finally stopped killing my snake plant after a random comment at the nursery

This older guy at Armstrong Garden Center in Glendale told me I was watering it too much and to just ignore it for 3 weeks. I thought he was crazy because the leaves were drooping but sure enough it perked right back up. Has anyone else had a stranger's offhand advice actually fix a plant problem?

That "ignore it for 3 weeks" advice saved my peace lily too. I had been drowning it for months before someone at a garage sale told me to just let it dry out completely.

Wait, you mean I don't have to water my plants every 3 days like I'm running a desert oasis? I killed two snake plants and a ZZ plant before I learned they basically want to be neglected. Someone at Home Depot straight up told me "that plant thrives on your forgetfulness" and I felt so called out. Now I just water mine when I remember it exists, which is like every 6 weeks, and it's somehow thriving like a weed.
