Can we talk about the Titan arum's bloom cycle?

I was reading about the corpse flower and found out the one at the University of California Botanical Garden only blooms every 7 to 10 years. The whole plant puts all its energy into that single massive bloom, which only lasts about 48 hours. Has anyone here ever been lucky enough to see one in person when it opened?

Honestly, the hype around seeing it bloom is overblown. It smells like a dumpster on a hot day, and the lines to see it are insane for a two-day show. You can watch a time-lapse video online and get the same experience without the crowd and the stink.

Agree with you drew_nguyen, it's a plant doing what plants do. People act like it's a once in a lifetime event, but it's just biology. The smell and the crowds sound like a lot of trouble for a flower that looks weird on purpose.

It's just another thing people line up for to say they did it.
