Why does nobody talk about the cheap bone folders from the craft store?

I spent about $8 on a plastic bone folder from a big box craft store last year, thinking it would be fine for light scoring. It snapped clean in half on my third book, right down the middle. I ended up buying a proper Teflon folder from a real supplier for $25, and the difference in feel and strength is huge. Has anyone else had a basic tool fail on them at a bad time?

Was it a hardcover or a paperback? That's a pretty quick failure either way.
