Unpopular opinion: glue sticks are ruining beginner books

I talked to a retired binder in Omaha last week who told me she only uses paste for every single step, no glue sticks at all. She showed me a 10 year old book she fixed that still lays flat because she took the time to do it right. How many of us are just taking shortcuts with those sticks and calling it good enough?
