Tried wheat paste for the first time on a rebound book and now I get why old guys swear by it
I picked up a copy of The Long Goodbye at a library sale in Tucson last week for a dollar, and the spine was shot. I had always used PVA for everything, but a binder at the Phoenix guild meeting said to try wheat paste on the spine strips because it stays flexible. Cooked up a small batch on the stove, about 3 tablespoons of flour, and brushed it on thin. It dried slower than I'm used to, but the hinge moves way better and no cracking after two days of opening and closing it. Does anyone here cut theirs with PVA for a bit more grab, or do you run it straight?
