That moment my press slipped and my cover ended up crooked

I was trying to get this fancy linen cover glued perfectly square in my apartment kitchen, but the press slipped at the last second and shifted everything about 3mm. Ended up having to peel the whole thing off and start over with fresh cloth - has anyone else dealt with a slippery press surface before?

Happened to a buddy of mine with a book press in his garage. Had this old press with some kind of wax on the plate, and when he tried to glue a leather cover on a book it just slid right off. Had to clamp it down with some scrap wood to keep it from moving again.

Happened to a friend who was trying to restore an old wooden chair. He'd glued a broken arm back on but the clamp he used had some dried glue on it from a previous job. The arm slid right off when he tightened it, and he had to sand everything down and start over with a clean clamp and fresh glue. Took him twice as long as he thought it would. Stuff like that makes you check your tools twice before starting.
