That fancy Japanese bookbinding awl was a total waste
Spent $45 on a handmade awl from a Kyoto shop. Sounded great in theory. But honestly my $8 basic awl from the hardware store works just as good for punching holes in signatures. Anyone else fall for the premium tool hype and regret it?

The real trick is wrapping the handle with some cheap hockey tape, gives you all the grip you need for under two bucks.
