Rant: I used to fold signatures by hand, now I swear by my bone folder and a straightedge
For years I folded every signature by eye, pinching the crease with my fingers and hoping for the best. Then about 8 months ago I picked up a real bone folder and a small metal straightedge from a retiring binder in Portland. The difference is night and day. My creases are sharp now, no more cracked spines on the third or fourth opening. I did 40 pamphlets for a local arts fair and every single one folded clean the first time. Anyone else switch tools and wonder why they waited so long?

Curious what weight of paper you were working with before vs now. Did the switch to a bone folder change how you prep the fold at all, like scoring first or still going straight to the crease? Asking because I just picked up a folder from a yard sale and I'm trying to figure out if the tool alone does the work or if there's a technique piece I'm missing. Forty pamphlets with zero cracks is a solid run.
