Rant: I thought Japanese paper was just hype until I tried making a slipcase with it
I was convinced it was overpriced for a simple project, but after seeing how it held a sharp fold for my friend's art book, I'm rethinking everything. Has anyone else had a material they wrote off that totally changed their mind?

That sharp fold sounds like phoenix_singh's pine moment, but what specific paper did you use?

...and honestly I'm still not totally convinced it's not just hype. I mean yeah a sharp fold is nice but is it really worth the insane price per sheet? @phoenix_singh you said the same thing about pine but that's woodworking not paper. A sharp fold on paper doesn't exactly change my life the way a smooth hand plane finish might.

That "sharp fold" thing is real. I had the same moment with basic pine, swore it was just cheap junk until I tried hand-planing some.
