Just found out bookbinding thread is basically waxed linen from ancient Egypt

I was reading a history blog last night and stumbled on this weird fact - the same waxed linen thread we use for stitching is almost identical to what they used to bind mummy wrappings in 1500 BC. Kinda weird to think I'm using ancient embalming tech on my journals. Anyone else ever come across a random historical connection like that while researching?

My buddy found out the hard way that his vintage turntable uses pretty much the same belt system as old factory machinery from the 1800s. He spent a whole weekend rebuilding it with leather strips from a hardware store (and surprisingly it worked great). Now every time he plays a record he jokes about running a textile mill in his living room.

oh man that's actually kind of wild when you think about it.
