Unpopular opinion: our book club got way better after one guy said we talk about the snacks too much
Last month at our club meeting in Akron, a member named Dave spoke up and said we spend the first 25 minutes on the food table and only about 40 on the actual book, and honestly he was right. He said the snacks chatter was crowding out the debate, so we tried something new at the next meetup and moved all the food talk to the last 15 minutes. It felt weird and a little cold at first, but we got through a full argument about the ending that we usually skip. What surprised me is that even with less snack time, people still hung around for a half hour after. We now keep a timer on the table and one person runs it, which sounds strict but it fixed the whole night. Has anyone else had a member call out a bad habit and actually change how your club runs?
