Rant: That guy at Barnes and Noble who argued 'The Great Gatsby' is a comedy
I was browsing the classics section last Tuesday when this dude in a beret starts telling me Gatsby is actually a comedy because of the car scene timing. He quoted the green light as a punchline and got mad when I laughed. Has anyone else run into someone who thinks a tragedy is just a joke with bad pacing?

The green light as a punchline, that's a new one. I had a guy in a coffee shop once try to tell me "Of Mice and Men" was a buddy comedy because of the way George and Lennie banter. He kept pointing to the dead puppy scene and saying it was "callback humor." I just nodded, finished my latte, and walked away. Sometimes the best move is to let them have their weird take and go find a shelf with actual comedies on it.
