Our club argued for 40 minutes over a book nobody finished, so we tried a 20 page cap
Last Tuesday in my Denver club, 8 of us spent 40 minutes fighting about a novel only 2 people finished. Half the room was just guessing at the ending. So we tried something different. Everyone gets 20 pages a week and we read the book out loud together. Six weeks later, attendance went from 4 to 9. Turns out the arguing was never about the book, it was about feeling behind. The talk got way better once we were all on the same page, literally. Does anyone else split their reading up like this, or is reading aloud too weird for a normal club?
