My book club's rule about no spoilers backfired in a big way
Our group voted last spring to ban any spoilers for the first 50 pages, thinking it would keep discussions fresh. My friend Dana pushed for it hard, saying it made meetings more fun. Instead, we spent 3 weeks dancing around the big twist in 'The Silent Patient' and the whole talk felt fake. We all knew what happened, but nobody could say it, so the meeting died. Has anyone else tried a spoiler rule that just made things worse?
