I finally walked out of a book club meeting last week

We were discussing 'The Vanishing Half' and three people kept interrupting each other about race. I went to the bathroom twice just to get a break from the arguing. The host asked me what I thought and I just said I had a headache and left. Has anyone else had a book club turn into a full on shouting match?

Full on shouting match" sounds like a feature, not a bug, at this point.

Wait, three people were interrupting each other about race and the host just let it happen? That sounds like a total nightmare. I would've noped out of there too, especially if I was just trying to enjoy some discussion about the book. Did anyone even try to stop the shouting or was it just chaos the whole time?
