Heard a librarian say 'book club picks should annoy you' and it flipped my whole view
I was at the Mill Creek library last month picking up my hold. Two librarians were talking at the desk. One said that exact thing. She said if everyone agrees the book was great, there's nothing to talk about. I used to pick books that were safe. Stuff everyone would like. Now I'm grabbing books I know will piss off half the group. Our last meeting on that polarizing eco-thriller went 90 minutes over. Has anyone else tried picking books that make people mad?

50 copies of a book called "The Gutter" got passed around my old truck stop book club and it nearly started a fistfight. The guys who hated it talked for an hour about why it was garbage, and the fans fired back just as hard. That night was the most fun we ever had, way better than when we all nodded along to a boring bestseller.
