Heads up: stop letting the person who talks the most run your book club meetings

I noticed at my last 3 meetings one person just dominates the discussion while everyone else sits quiet. If you let the loudest voice steer the convo you miss what 80% of the group actually thinks. Has anyone else seen this tank a whole discussion?

Oh man, this hits close to home. Our last book club meeting was basically a one-person podcast and I left feeling like I didn't even get to say what I actually thought about the book.

Yeah it's rough being the quiet one in those groups. @jordan330 you hit the nail on the head, it's like some people just need to hear themselves talk. I've had meetings where someone goes on for ten minutes about the symbolism of a lamp in chapter three and I'm just sitting there thinking "did we read the same book?" The worst part is when you finally get a chance to speak and the conversation has moved on to something else entirely. Makes you wonder why they even ask for your opinion if they're not going to let you give it. Quiet people get drowned out way too often in those settings.
