Am I the only one who thinks The Great Gatsby is actually overrated

I used to defend it in high school but after rereading it at 32 last winter I finally admitted the characters are just boring rich people with no real stakes.

I reread it at 33 last summer and felt the same way. Gatsby spends the whole book throwing parties to impress a girl who was never that interesting to begin with. Daisy is just a rich woman who says pretty things and does nothing. The whole thing is about people who have way too much money and zero real problems. I flipped to the last page and just thought "that's it?" after all that buildup.

Did you end up watching the movie after that? The one with Leonardo DiCaprio is pretty but I still fell asleep halfway through twice.

Agree with @rosel50, the movie was all flash no substance too. Gatsby is just a sad guy with a crush and too much cash.
