Wasted $300 on a fancy tape measure that can't handle shop dust

I bought that digital readout tape for a clean room job but after two weeks on a gritty floor it started skipping numbers, so are we really better off with tech over a basic 25 footer or did I just get a lemon in Pittsburgh?

Wait, did it actually break or just freak out when dust got in the sensor? Because that's a big difference, a quick blast of air might fix it. What kind of dust we talking, like fine drywall powder or metal shavings?
