Was taught to always use a 3/8 inch drive for boiler tube rolling, but a new foreman in Cheyenne had me try a 1/2 inch. Now I'm not sure.

@thomas_gonzalez has a point though, torque aside a 1/2 inch drive just wears the tools out faster.

Read a forum post once where a guy swore by the 1/2 inch for more torque on the tough ones. Makes you wonder if the old rule is just habit.

Old rules stick around for a reason, though. A bigger drive can handle more stress before it breaks. Sometimes habit is just proven experience.
