Thought I was the hotshot welding for 6 years until my lead handed me a grinder

I was feathering edges wrong on every butt weld I did, just piling bead on top of bead. Last month my foreman on a tank job in Baton Rouge finally showed me the right way to blend it in one pass, and I felt like a total idiot. Anyone else have a basic skill they got away with faking too long?

Spent two years cleaning fish wrong until a deckhand showed me the trick in five minutes.

Brother I spent three years grinding flat when I could have just turned my wire speed down.
