Showerthought: I thought those fancy digital torque wrenches were a gimmick until we had to redo 200 flange bolts in a power plant last month...

Did anyone else notice that their "feel" for torque gets worse the more tired you get? I remember my first year on the job, I was so proud of myself for getting through a big flange job, only to realize I'd been reading the click-type wrench wrong for the last twenty bolts. Had to borrow a digital one from a coworker to check my work, and let's just say my lunch that day was a humble pie special. The paint pen trick would've saved me a world of hurt back then, that's a solid idea.

Redoing 200 flange bolts sounds like a nightmare. Honestly, the beep on a digital wrench is a lifesaver when you're tired and can't trust your own feel anymore. It just takes one mistake to learn that lesson.

Yeah, you learn real quick... we started marking each bolt with a paint pen after it was torqued. That way when you're looking at a sea of them, you don't lose your place. The digital one is great for the final click, but that visual check saves you when your brain is fried halfway through.
