Rant: I thought those new ceramic fiber blankets were just a gimmick until a job in Spokane

We were lining a firebox for a big boiler and the old stuff was a nightmare to cut and fit. My foreman brought in a roll of this new ceramic fiber blanket, and I rolled my eyes thinking it was just expensive fluff. We used it on a tricky corner section, and it cut clean with a knife and sealed up tight with way less mess. That corner has held perfect for over six months now with no shrinkage cracks. Has anyone else switched over, or am I just late to the party on this one?

Switched to it last year for some tricky duct work. Stuff is legit, cuts like butter and holds up way better than the old rigid boards.

Nice! I've found a sharp utility knife makes the cleanest cuts on that stuff. Just go slow and let the blade do the work.

@jessica_miller you're right about the duct work, but has anyone tried sealing the edges with aluminum tape before cutting? It stops the fibers from fraying and makes the whole job cleaner.
