My old partner Ray said never trust a tube roller that sits in the dirt, cost me a whole weekend
Back in 2019 we were doing a retube job on a waste heat boiler down in Gary and Ray kept telling me to wipe down the roller and check the bearings before every pass. I figured he was just being picky so I skipped it one Friday afternoon to try and get home early. By Saturday morning the roller was hanging up and we egged two tubes in a row. Had to cut them out with a die grinder and the foreman made us eat the hours. Cost us about 14 hours of rework and a lot of grief. Ray just looked at me and said "told you that dirt gets in the cage." Anybody else got a partner whose nagging actually saved their butt later?
