I caught a guy using the wrong filler rod on a 309L weld joint last Tuesday
He kept saying it was fine but I could see the puddle was acting weird (too runny, not wetting right). Tested it and sure enough, that weld is gonna crack under any real load in a few months. How do you guys handle telling someone they're using the wrong rod without starting a fight?

Funny how people hate admitting they're wrong even with something as basic as a filler rod.

The guy on job site yesterday refused to swap out a rod that was clearly dirty and kept saying it was fine. He argued with the foreman for ten minutes about how it was just a little surface rust and wouldn't matter. Everyone was just standing there watching him dig his heels in over something that costs like five bucks. Finally the foreman just grabbed a new one and handed it to him and he still wouldn't take it. I don't get people who make their whole reputation about being stubborn on the smallest things. It's embarrassing to watch.
