Fused my own stinger with a plug lead I made at 3am

I built a 100 foot extension lead with some old SO cord and a cheap plug from the hardware store, worked fine for a week then shorted out on a job in Gary last Friday. Anyone else trust their own wiring over buying factory made, or am I just cheap?

Honestly, factory leads are built to handle the dumb stuff you don't think about at 3am. Cheap plug and old cord might save a buck, but one bad connection on a job site isn't worth the headache.
