Vent: My game group in Denver kept quitting Gloomhaven after the first scenario
We had three different people drop out over six months, always saying it was too much setup and the rules were a wall. I finally tried something my cousin suggested: we play the first two scenarios back to back in one four hour session, with me handling all the monster AI and setup alone beforehand. Suddenly everyone got hooked because they saw the story start to develop and didn't feel the admin pain. Has anyone else found a specific 'on-ramp' tactic that saved a heavy game for your group?

Gloomhaven's a board game, not a job application lol. If people need that much hand-holding just to start playing, maybe the game's just not for them. It's cool your trick worked, but bending over backwards that much feels like a lot for plastic standees and cards.

Ugh, I get where you're coming from. It took my group three nights just to unpack and sort everything before we could even play. Sometimes you just want to jump into a game, not run a logistics operation for it.
