The week my gaming group played 7 different games and all of them flopped
Last Tuesday we tried to play Scythe and someone spilled coffee on the board, then Terraforming Mars turned into a 4-hour rules argument, and by Friday I realized that maybe the problem wasn't the games but the fact that none of us had actually read the rulebooks all the way through, has anyone else had a streak of bad game nights where everything just goes wrong?

None of us had actually read the rulebooks all the way through" wait, is that for real? That would explain a lot honestly, especially the 4 hour rules argument. How did you even set up Terraforming Mars without reading the rules first?

It's a weird thing people do all the time, not just with board games. Nobody reads the manual for their coffee maker either, they just start pressing buttons and hope for the best. Same with assembling furniture, people jump in then wonder why they have leftover screws. The 4 hour argument was just the board game version of that. People want to skip straight to the fun part, then spend way more time fixing the mess they made.
