That 'party game snob' comment at game night stuck with me

Last Saturday in Portland, someone at the table said my love for Codenames was 'for people who don't really play board games.' I get that lighter games feel less deep to some folks, but I've been gaming for 12 years and still think that word association puzzle beats half the heavy euros I've tried. It isn't about complexity being a badge of honor, it's about whether the group actually engages and laughs. Has anyone else had their favorite casual game dismissed like that, and did you change your table lineup because of it?
