Serious question, did my friend give me bad advice about Catan trading?
My friend Mike told me to never trade anyone more than one resource at a time in Settlers of Catan, so I stuck to that rule for months and always lost badly. Last week I broke his rule and traded three sheep for one brick with someone who was desperate and ended up winning the game. Has anyone else had a board game tip from a friend that actually made you worse at the game?

Ugh seriously that advice is WAY too rigid, just trade based on who's actually losing.

Exactly, that's what I've learned the hard way. You gotta watch the table for a few minutes and see who's actually struggling to hit their shots or playing lazy on defense. That's way more important than some rigid "always trade this guy" rule. I've been burned too many times sticking to a system instead of just reading the game as it happens. Real talk, if a star player looks checked out mentally, that's the time to fade them no matter what the charts say. Trust your eyes over the math every single time.
