My game group fights over house rules for Catan, and I think the rulebook should win
Two guys in my Thursday group have house ruled Catan for years so robber moves can't touch anyone in last place, and it made our games drag past two hours. I timed it once: our normal game runs about 55 minutes, but with that rule it hit 2 hours and 10 minutes, and three people just stopped trading. On the other side, another guy says house rules keep his family playing because his kids hate getting knocked down. I see both points, but I think once you change the win condition or the robber, you are playing a different game with the same box. Where do you all draw the line between a fun tweak and breaking the game?
