Hit 200 board games in my collection and realized I barely play half of them

Honestly I just did a full inventory count last weekend and I'm at 203 games total. I sat down and marked which ones actually hit the table in the last 6 months and it was only like 80. That means over 120 games are just taking up shelf space and it kind of freaked me out. I started asking myself why I even bother buying stuff I never get to play. Has anyone else done a real count and noticed the same gap between what you own and what you actually play?

Counted mine a few months ago and out of 180 games I probably play like 60 of them regularly. The rest are just sitting there looking pretty on the shelf. Feels like a waste sometimes but I still can't stop buying them.

Just sitting there looking pretty on the shelf" - thats so me lol. @andrewh43 I think I have like 50 games I've literally never even opened still in the shrink wrap. I keep telling myself I'll get to them but then I just buy more. It's a problem but at least our shelves look nice right?

Wait hold on 50 games still in the shrink wrap? That is wild to me. I thought I was bad with my pile of like 15 untouched games but you're on a whole other level. How do you even resist tearing the plastic off and at least checking out the manual or the disc art? I mean I get the collecting part but at some point don't you just want to see what's inside the box? What's the oldest one you've got sitting there, like how many years has it been sealed up?
