Brought my custom dice tower to game night, the cat claimed it in 10 minutes
I spent 3 weekends building this felt-lined dice tower with a tiny drawbridge, and the moment I set it on the table at my buddy's place in Austin, his orange tabby jumped inside and refused to leave. Every roll we tried came with a paw swipe at the dice, so we just started calling it the cat tax and rolled on the table instead. Has anyone else had a pet basically annex part of their board game setup, and how do you keep them out without banning them from the room?

I read somewhere that cats go after dice towers because the felt lining smells like a nesting spot and the drawbridge feels like a door they can guard. That tracks with what you said about the paw swipes, they are basically hunting the dice when they slide out. My buddy in Dallas has a corgi that steals any miniatures that get knocked over, just grabs them and trots off to the couch. We tried putting a weighted base on the tower and a little bell on the cat's collar so we hear it coming, but honestly we gave up and just let the dog have a "fallen warrior" pile. The only thing that actually worked was setting up a decoy box nearby with a blanket inside, the cat went for that instead and left the game stuff alone.
