Board game group chats have gotten really superficial lately

In my experience, our local meetup conversations shifted from digging into game strategies to just saying if something is fun or not. This focus on quick opinions over real discussion grinds my gears, your mileage may vary. Are other folks dealing with this in their circles too?

That point about sharing a tough choice you made is spot on... it's like the game itself gives you the talking points. We started doing a quick "best/worst move" round at the end of the night, and it forces everyone to actually think back on the game, not just give a thumbs up or down.

It helps to ask specific questions that force deeper answers. Instead of "did you like it", try "what opening move surprised you" or "how did the resource management feel mid-game". You can also share a tough choice you made during play, which often gets people talking about their own decisions. Our group improved when one person started posting a single strategy question after each meetup. People just need a small push sometimes.
