A Tuesday that flipped my opinion on legacy games completely around

Last month I spent 8 hours playing through the third session of Pandemic Legacy Season 1 after swearing I hated the concept of permanent changes, but the moment my friend's character died for good and the narrative actually mattered I realized I was wrong, has anyone else had that sudden shift where a game type you wrote off just clicked in one sitting?

Session 3 of Pandemic Legacy is exactly where it clicked for me too, but for a totally different reason. I went in thinking permanent changes were just a gimmick, and then we accidentally nuked a whole city with a scar we couldn't fix. That faded yellow sticker is still on my board and every time we see it, we remember how panicked we were when that outbreak chain started. What got me wasn't character death, it was realizing the board itself was telling our specific story. A regular game of Pandemic just can't do that.
