A guy at my FLGS said my Catan trades were 'too generous' and it made me rethink how I play
So about 2 months ago I'm at Game Nite in St. Louis playing Catan with some regulars and this guy Dave keeps turning down my trade offers, then finally tells me I'm basically handing people the game by overpaying for ore. I argued that a trade you don't make is worse than a trade that's slightly bad, but he said that only works if everyone at the table plays the same way. Since then I've tried playing way tighter with my offers, and honestly my win rate has gone up but the table vibe feels worse, like everyone is just hoarding and nobody builds anything for the first 20 minutes. So which side is right here, do you squeeze every trade for max value or do you keep the cards moving to keep the game fun? Would love to hear from people who play with the same group every week.
