Why does nobody talk about coal forges vs propane when you live in town

Spent 3 weeks going back and forth on a $400 propane setup or sticking with coal in my backyard in Duluth. Went propane since the neighbors were getting smoked out, and honestly the temp control is way easier. Anyone else make this switch and miss the coal fire?
