Vent: the old guy at the flea market said to quench my first knife in warm oil, not cold
I ignored him and dunked a 1084 blade straight into cold canola and it warped so bad the tip curled like a banana peel. He just laughed and said warm oil slows the cooling on the thin edge, so now the whole thing sits on my bench as a paperweight. Anybody else learn the hard way that the old timers at the swap meet actually know what they're talking about?
