The floor of my demo forge cracked after 12 years of abuse

Last Tuesday I was finishing a batch of bottle openers for the local market and the refractory cement on my forge floor just split right down the middle. It was a 2 inch gap that let the flame lick straight at the steel frame underneath. I patched it with some high-temp mortar from the supply shop in Harrisburg, but I'm wondering if anyone else has tried pouring a new floor with castable instead. Did you have to rip out the whole base or could you layer it on top?
